Who doesn’t get inspired by bright and naturally colourful snack foods? This recipe for Do-It-Yourself Sweet Potato Chips is eye-catching, crunchy, tasty and fun to eat!

DIY Sweet Potato Chips

I love Sweet Potato Chips - but they are expensive and "heavier" than they need to be. Here is a healthified version of store bought chips.

Serves: A bowl of chips!
Ingredients
  • 1 medium sweet potato, very thinly sliced with a knife, food processor or mandolin
  • 2-3 Tbsp melted butter or other liquid fat
  • ½ tsp Sea salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Place prepared sweet potatoes in a large bowl. Toss with melted butter and sea salt, ensure all surfaces of sweet potato are thinly coated.
  3. Place an oven-proof cooling rack on a baking sheet. Then, lay out the prepared sweet potatoes in a single layer so they roast and get crisp (rather than steam which would happen if not elevated from the baking sheet). Roast for about 8 minutes or until crispy and slightly browned. Enjoy!

You can also cook these chips on a baking tray with holes in it to help with air circulation, pictured below. If you don’t have one of these pans, you can try baking these sweet potato chips using the method suggested in the recipe and pictured above.

Want to add in more color to your snack? Make beet chips! This same cooking method can be used for making beet chips. Prepare beets separately from other vegetables to prevent staining with the rich beet color!

Keep an eye on your snack foods while they bake. Do not over bake like I did!!
