Ambrosia, Braeburn, Delicious, Jonagold – these and thousands of other varieties of apples are now in season! Crunchy, naturally sweet and satisfying – bite into an apple and enjoy how the apple juices dribble down your chin.


There are thousands of varieties of apples. Yes, you read that right – thousands! The different apple varietals vary on the firmness of their flesh, how juicy they are, their sweetness and how crisp their crunch is. If you are stuck in an apple rut, take a walk on the wild side and bite into a new apple variety.


Apples are a wonderfully natural (and virtually mess free) fast food – grab one and go!

Many ways to enjoy apples:

  • on their own,
  • sliced up with almond butter,
  • dipped in yogurt,
  • chopped up in a salsa,
  • dehydrated into apple “chips”
  • diced in a coconut chicken curry
  • blended into a squash soup
  • sprinkled on my salad.

Something I enjoy watching is the simple transformation of a piece of fruit into something that can be enjoyed in a variety of other ways.

Here is a recipe that you can use to transform your apples into a delicious compote. Serve this maple apple compote over yogurt, whole-grain toast, an English muffin, over waffles, enjoy by itself or over rice-pudding.

Serves: 6
  • 8 medium-sized apples, peeled and cut into chunks
  • ⅓ cup maple syrup
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • zest and juice of ½ lemon
  • pinch of sea salt
  1. In a large sauce pan, combine all ingredients (except sea salt). Cover and cook over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender (about 10 minutes). Let cool. Once cooked, top compote with a pinch of sea salt for an enhanced flavor burst.
