Marinated Baked Tofu

I always joke with clients that I am not here to sell you tofu. But it is a less expensive plant protein that, when cooked properly, can be fast and takes on the flavour of whatever you cook it with. If you can cook chicken, you can cook tofu.

In this recipe, I marinate firm tofu in soy sauce, liquid smoke and garlic and then bake in the oven. You can use the leftovers for a fast protein topper on your salad or power bowl, or as an alternative to lunch meat. If you haven’t given tofu a try, give it a chance.

Ingredients
  • 1 block firm tofu
  • ¼ cup low sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp liquid smoke
Instructions
  1. Place block of tofu in a glass container. Wrap in a clean dish towel and place a plate or book overtop to help drain. If short on time, skip this step.
  2. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix together the tamari, garlic powder and liquid smoke. Pour over the tofu and allow to marinate for 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  4. Remove tofu from marinade, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, then flip over and bake another 10 minutes.
