Orange Dreamsicle Smoothie

Looking for a smoothie recipe that feels like a mini tropical getaway and fuels your body with heart-healthy nutrition?

This Orange Dreamsicle Smoothie is a refreshing, nourishing blend that checks all the boxes.

The best part? It’s made with everyday ingredients you can easily find at your local grocery store. It’s family-friendly too—your kids, grandkids, and even your partner will happily sip on this one.

What’s inside this smoothie recipe:

  • Banana
  • Fresh orange
  • Plain Greek yogurt
  • Canned white beans (yes, really!)
  • Vanilla
  • Honey
  • Ice

These everyday foods are also part of the Mediterranean Diet, a dietary pattern known for its benefits for midlife health and mental health.

Why this smoothie recipe supports midlife health

This smoothie recipe isn’t just about good taste—it’s about smart nutrition for  midlife, including your heart health, energy, and hormones:

✔️ Fiber boost – Packed with soluble fiber, which helps lower cholesterol and stabilize blood sugars—both important in midlife.
✔️ Protein-rich – Naturally sourced from Greek yogurt and beans to help you stay satisfied and support muscle health.
✔️ Low in saturated fat and cholesterol – A creamy, sweet treat without relying on heavy cream or ice cream.

Surprised by the beans?

I get it—you might not expect to see white kidney beans in a smoothie. But hear me out. Most people think of protein powders or dairy as the go-to protein sources for smoothies. While those work fine, beans are a budget-friendly, versatile, and nutrient-packed option that disappear right into the creamy texture.

Here’s why I love adding beans to this smoothie recipe:

  • Protein power – Just ½ cup of white kidney beans gives you 7 grams of plant-based protein.

  • Fiber support – Another 6 grams of fiber in that same small portion!

  • Nutrient-rich – They provide folate for heart health, potassium for blood pressure, magnesium and B-vitamins for energy and metabolism.

Adding beans to smoothies is one of my favourite midlife nutrition hacks—simple, discreet, and surprisingly delicious.
